Abstract

Fish lipids are the key source of energy for reproduction; the aim of this study was to analyze various lipid classes and the protein content in Rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss (Linnaeus,1758) sampled from Kokernag and Verinag hatcheries (Jammu and Kashmir) between 2018-2019. Maximum gonadosomatic (GSI) and hepatosomatic (HIS) indices were reported in Mature stage and minimum in spent stage. Higher lipid content was reported during the mature stage (36 percent) of the ovary as compared to other pre breeding stages (Immature, maturing and spent stage). The content of different classes also showed fluctuation during the development of ovary. Except that of phospholipids all the classes of lipids viz. glycolipids, free fatty acid, cholesterol and triglycerides were having higher content in mature stage of ovary while the phospholipid content was higher in maturing stage. Similarly, protein content was also higher in mature ovary as compared to other developing stages. The current study gives reference values for various biochemical parameters in Rainbow trout that might be beneficial for population monitoring programs, as well as designing diets and management methods for fish production under controlled settings.
