Abstract

The food used in intensive fish culture must be formulated so that it contains all essential components necessary for healthy and normal fish growth. The components must be of good quality in order for the fish to digest it more easily, because otherwise the expected effect is not reached. It is also important to apply the proper grinding techniques so that the food obtained is as firm as possible when it comes into contact with water. The proper feeding techniques and use of good quality food should be the most important factors on the fish farms. The size of food, feeding frequency, as well as the amount of feedings together with the proper manipulation in culture assist in maintaining a healthy population of fish. The constant care of fish and following of its behaviour is very important, because a decrease in apetite, badly conserved food, or a lag in growth rate are early symptoms of stress and disease in fish.
