Abstract

Commercial freshwater fisheries in the Republic of Croatia are regulated according to the Freshwater Fisheries Act and various sub-acts regarding commercial freshwater fisheries, as well as other sub-laws dealing with fish sizes, closed seasons and estimation of damages on the fish stocks. The aim of this work was to show data of catch in commercial fisheries, as well as the ratios between particular fish species and annual catch quotas on the Rivers Danube and Sava in the years 2011 and 2012. It also analyzes data on the total catch in commercial fisheries, as well as the number of licenses on the Rivers Danube and Sava between 2004 and 2012. In the year 2011, the catch quotas of all relevant fish species in commercial fisheries on the Rivers Danube and Sava were not reached. In the year 2011, catch quotas of all relevant fish species in commercial fisheries on the River Sava were not reached, while the catch of carp exceeded the catch quota on the River Danube.
