Abstract
The current study provides valuable insight of the trawl fishery operating in the southern Albanian waters through an integrate approach, based on high-frequency on-board monitoring on trawl vessels and on the spot interviews with the local fishers. Multivariate analyses applied on either species landings composition or economic revenue, revealed groups that depending on the group, were characterized by improved fisheries landings and economic efficiency. Results confirmed the multispecies nature across the Adriatic Sea, as the majority part of the catch was composed of a variety of demersal and small- and medium-sized pelagic species. Target species, identified in terms of both catches and revenue, are implying a systematic tactic during long-term period and incidenal catches, are also of equally importance in terms of overall group similarity. The definition of target species groups might be useful for evaluating the current sampling stratification schemes.
